In & Out of Painting* accompanies the exhibition of the same name and translates the openness of Ashley Hans Scheirl's oeuvre into a deliberately ambiguous book concept. Six partly dyed papers, three typefaces in varying sizes, and shifting typographic orientations create a visual language that describes without fixing. Work reproductions and exhibition views appear as visual arguments across changing scales, generating a dense, collage-like dramaturgy. Awarded the Staatspreis 2025 as one of the most beautiful books of Austria.
